A new year calls for new adventures! If you need a little inspiration, here are some top destinations for this year.

1) Sicily

As travelers seek a new side of Italy, Sicily is growing in popularity.  This island off the southern coast boasts authentic culture, opportunities to learn about the history, and delectable food and wine. Bonus: Enjoy the gorgeous coastline from a boat, or rest on their stunning beaches.

2) Japan

A land of unique culture and contrasts, Japan is a mix of fast-paced, modern life and ancient traditions. It offers a depth worth exploring so be sure to plan enough time in Japan to experience both ends of the spectrum.

3) Costa Rica

From beaches to rainforests, Costa Rica offers rich ecosystems that can entertain it’s visitors for a long weekend or weeks on end.  Be sure to relax at the resorts in Papagayo, surf along the Pacific coast and volunteer to work with sea turtles in the Osa Peninsula. 4) New Zealand

There are dramatic destinations, and then there’s New Zealand. Endless outdoor activities mean you can soak up the stunning vistas.  Some notable mentions are hiking, hot air ballooning, rafting, biking, bungy jumping, visiting vineyards, and trekking…just to name a few.

5) Ireland

With it’s warm hospitality and rolling green hills, the Emerald Isle is always worth a visit. The country is bursting with culture, history, and stunning landscapes that pair perfectly with a pint of Guinness.

6) Colombia

More and more travelers are becoming intrigued by Colombia’s vibrant culture, colorful cities, and diverse geography. And by diverse geography, we aren’t joking. One of the seventeen countries considered “megadiverse”, Colombia boasts rainforests, mountains, beaches, and deserts.

7) Germany

Though we love Germany’s beer and bratwurst, the country offers so much more. Berlin has a vibrant art scene and opportunities to give back,Baden-Baden is famous for spas, and the countryside has picturesque castles. Every 10 years in the Bavarian village Oberammergau, locals perform the Passion Play – a tradition that started in 1634! Get your tickets to the 2020 performance now, happening May to October!

8) The Dolomites

Located in northeastern Italy, The Dolomites region is perfect for the traveler who wants adventure and Italy’s famed culinary scene. It’s best to visit in the summer or winter months, where mountains, pasta, wine wait for you.

9) Peru

Machu Picchu is on everyone’s bucket list and it’s only getting more popular.  Get there sooner than later to appreciate the best food in Latin America, stunning Sacred Valley and of course the treasured lost city. If you have more time, be sure to make a stop through the Amazon or visit the coastal, up and coming cities like Arequipa.

10) Morocco

Morocco has been upcoming for enough years that they have the hotels and services in place but it’s not yet touristy.  It’s an exotic destination with hospitality that makes you feel right at home. With winding medinas, stunning deserts, vibrant cities, and warm and friendly locals, Morocco charmed it’s way onto our list for 2020.

11) Brazil

Brazil is an all time favorite, a permanent resident on the top 20 list.  It’s the perfect mix of beach, jungle, city and culture all with a vibrant twist.  The diversity, dancing and dining will keep you coming back for more.  And since dropping its visa requirements for US citizens, Brazil has made it even easier to experience its beauty and charm.

12) South Africa

From the incredible restaurants popping up around Cape Town, to the delicious Pinotage in the wineland and of course to the incredible animal kingdom, South Africa has it all.  There are so many was to experience South Africa from a more casual perspective to ultimate luxury, there’s something for everybody.  Be sure to check out how you can get a more local experience by volunteering for a day.   

13) Greece

Greece was one of the top travel destinations in 2019 and continues to tend that way in 2020.  With dramatic views of Santorini, the history of Athens and boutique islands of Pyros and Naxos, there is surely a good fit for everyone. 14) Portugal

This small country that conquered much of the New World has also conquered travelers’ hearts. The art, cuisine, wine, history, and beaches are all on the must-experience list, and since Portugal isn’t massive, you can explore much of the country without spending hours intransit.

15) Anguilla

Looking for that perfect island in the Caribbean?  You’re looking for Anguilla.  This slice of paradise is the perfect place to relax on the beach, snorkel in the pristine Caribbean waters, and enjoy some incredible resorts. Sun, sand, and a drink in your hand is just what the doctor ordered!

16) India

India is always a journey for the senses! With a lifetime of history and a world of culture packed all into one country, India is guaranteed to leave visitors in awe.

17) Croatia

Whether you love history, beaches, culture, water activities, or Game of Thrones, you’ll love Croatia. Here you can find ancient Roman ruins in seaside towns, charming fishing villages, vineyards, and olive groves. And with hundreds of islands and coves to explore, we recommend spending plenty of time seeing the country by boat.

18) Fiji

With an average temperature of 86, pristine beaches and some of the best coral in the world, there’s no wonder why Fiji is home to some of the happiest people on earth. This destination isn’t just about lounging by the ocean; there is world-class snorkeling and surfing as well as hiking and kayaking.

19) Mexico

While we love the beaches of Cabo (and all the new hotel openings) and ruins of Tulum, Mexico leaves so much to be discovered.  Mexico City is arguably one of the most interesting cities in the world.  San Miguel offers kind locals and chic stores, and the beaches of Zihuatanejo are still (somewhat) undiscovered.  Just to name some of dozens of wonders.  And the food!

20) Bhutan

In good times and in hard, Bhutan offers a warm welcome to visitors interested in learning more about their magnificent culture and stunning country.  It is a place where kindness is valued and people live a more peaceful life.  This kingdom is truly something divine.
