08 Jan Volunteer a day at a Siem Reap school
During your visit to Siem Reap in Cambodia, in addition to enjoying the magical sunrise at Angkor Wat and wandering on Pub Street, how about spending an afternoon inspiring high school students? Getting off the typical tourist path is a great way to experience a place from a different perspective and volunteering is a great way to give back to the local community. It’s no surprise that we hear from many travelers that their favorite day of their vacation was their volunteer day.
Pouk High School is looking for volunteers to spend 2-3 hours of their afternoon as a guest speaker to share their life and career story – including both the successes and failures, challenges, lessons and everything that brought them to who they are today. Volunteers are welcome to be creative and bring learning materials such as hand-outs. It will be a different kind of magical experience to uplift 150 high school students who have overcome challenges and need future guidance.
The goal of this career planning program is to provide the high school students practical interpersonal skills and prepare them for making upcoming career choices. This program is an initiative run by a Southeast Asia based nonprofit, Child’s Dream, whose mission is to improve health and education through sustainable development in Cambodia, Laos, Thailand and Myanmar. Since 2003, they have run over 760 projects and impacted over 300,000 lives for the better. Many of their projects are in rural and remote parts of the countries where the most need is. This project in Siem Reap is a unique opportunity to help out near an accessible city.
