A Snapshot of Old Town Panama City Casco Antiguo (also referred to as Casco Viejo or San Felipe) was the founding site of Panama City in 1673. Fundacion Calicanto contributed significantly to this neighborhood being officially named a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1998. However, the majority of residents of Casco Antiguo and surrounding communities live in poverty. They lack access to financial capital, education, and other opportunities. Fundación Calicanto works to create solutions to these problems.
Volunteering at Calicanto Calicanto welcomes volunteers to participate in classes as part of the CAPTA program which provides training and personal development for at-risk women. This may include joining an English class and practicing conversational English. In addition, volunteers who don’t speak Spanish are invited to lend a hand in their offices with administrative work.
