About Sociedad Protectora de Animales de San Miguel de Allende
The Sociedad Protectora de Animales de San Miguel de Allende has been leading the charge in animal welfare since 1980. It is the only no-kill animal shelter for dogs and cats in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico and houses an average of 100 animals (cats and dogs). The S.P.A.’s missions include helping to protect dogs and cats and avoid cruelty to them, spreading the word about improving pet care, curbing overpopulation, and working with others to accomplish these goals. They are a non-profit organization and do not receive any government support.
One of the S.P.A.’s goals is to educate the San Miguel de Allende community about the importance of taking care of their pets and giving them the health care they need, i.e., vaccinations and sterilization, and provide an economical means to satisfy these responsibilities.
Volunteering at S.P.A.
This non-profit organization mostly relies on donations and volunteer help for its daily operations. Volunteers can help walk dogs which helps to socialize the dogs and makes them more adoptable. They need help making sure all of the adolescent and older dogs get a daily walk. You can also play with cats and puppies!
