Door Step School is an innovative educational nonprofit working to improve access and impart literacy skills among the economically disadvantaged children in Mumbai and Pune. Many of these children are not enrolled in school and have limited access to books and a place to study. They offer supplemental educational programs such as early childhood education, after school programs, tutoring, and non-formal educational programs for children who do not regularly attend school.
A Snapshot of Mumbai
Mumbai is the most populous city in India, with over 20 million people in the metropolitan area. This enormous population goes hand-in-hand not only with a fabulous wealth of culture and activities, but also with substantial poverty. Many children in poor neighborhoods struggle to receive an education, as government schools are oversubscribed and under-resourced.
